SYSTEMATIC RESEARCH SYNTHESIS ON RATING IN ESP SPEAKING ASSESSMENTS

Jacoby and McNamara (1998) insist that domain specialists (e.g., doctors) language teachers) differ in their approaches to evaluating profession-specific communication tasks. However, due the scarcity of studies examining speaking assessments for occupational purposes, differences between two rater groups have not yet been clearly revealed. In response this gap literature, systematic research synthesis study examines how workplace skill has evaluated, focusing on rating scales. The major findings are as follows. First, ESP tends include more than one group such specialists. Second, while generally demonstrate high intergroup correlations, notably differs terms field-specific criteria. Third, compared with linguistic scales, criteria developed. Based these results, directions future discussed.
